I Noticed Your behavior!

Important Read: ABC News- Poll- Rudeness in America, 2006

The Ichong Etiquette Card is designed to increase self-awareness and accountability of acts of kindness or rudeness. I, Kevin Chong, designed the etiquette card because an individual committed an act of rudeness towards me. I refrained from commenting on the individual’s rudeness for fear of escalating the rudeness. After this experience I thought to myself how can I turn this into a positive learning experience for both parties and the etiquette card was created.

The Etiquette Card Program is FREE to all schools K-12. We believe this program is most appropriate for middle schools and high schools. Please contact us to receive Ichong Etiquette Card material. We will customize the material for your school.

We have started a campaign to get the Ichong Etiquette Card Program to every middle school and high school in america!

Ichong Etiquette Card Mission Statement

  • Increases internally and externally awareness.

  • Bring attention to actions in an unobtrusive way.

  • Increased accountability for one’s actions.

Increases internally and externally awareness.

  • Internally an individual increases their self-awareness allow them to make better choices of their actions and behaviors.

  • Externally an individual becomes more aware of the action of others and the influences it could have on everyone around.

Bring attention to actions in an unobtrusive way

  • Acts of kindness can be acknowledge and rewarded

  • Acts of rudeness can be addressed in a minimal contact way, letting an individual know that their acts continually affect society in a negative way

Increased accountability for one’s actions comes from knowledge and the application of knowledge. Becoming a kind respectful person doesn’t just happen, it’s through experiences good or bad.

The Etiquette Card increases awareness by describing both acts of kindness and rudeness. Individual’s committing either act is already aware of their actions. Acts of kindness should be acknowledged. Thank you is enough but taking that little extra step builds a more positive thinking society.

In the case of rudeness, we all know when we are being rude and confronting the action usually does not result in a positive learning experience for anyone experiencing the incident. The individual that commits the act of rudeness reinforces their behavior with the possibility of rudeness to become more frequent and becomes a less positive thinking individual and contributes less to the greater good of society.

The Etiquette Card provides a way to continually reinforce positive actions and deter negative actions. The cards can be reused indefinitely. When handing out a card the learning experience is greater when the act of kindness or rudeness is not identified. When an individual receives a card they know what act they’ve committed and if they don’t they take a moment to recall all their actions bringing greater awareness of their behavior.

Why put kindness and rudeness on one card?

It’s to encourage a person who receives the card to think about their behavior and actions. Most of the time people just react without thinking. If a person can take a second to think about how they would feel if the role was reversed they might act differently. When a person starts thinking this way they not only learn to respect others, more importantly they learn to respect themselves!

The Golden Rule - Treat others as you would like to be treated.

For rudeness, it’s not about pointing fingers. You can let a person know they’re being rude without a card but that usually ends in disgusted looks, a shouting match or worse. In the end both walk away disgusted. By giving the card and posting a message you not only have a release for your emotions. You increase the exposure of rude behaviors. People that are rude probably have the belief that we probably won’t see this person again.

For kindness, it’s about increasing awareness of kind acts in ourselves and other. Promoting kindness is something we do less and less because we are all in such a hurry but it only takes a second to show your appreciation for someone’s kindness.

Information on issues related to respect, such as kindness and rudeness are continually being added.  We have a list of links to articles and reports in our F.Y.I. section.

The reports  will give society an ongoing real time statistical report of our behaviors. We as a society are losing accountability for our actions because we feel the ease of getting lost in the crowd with the increase in world population and many other factors. But our behavior does impact others possibly for a lifetime!
